How to Fill Scratches in a Wood Floor
- 1). Wash the wood floor clean off any dirt, hair or other debris that may be present. Make sure the floor is completely dry before continuing.
- 2). Select a fill stick that matches the lightest area of your wood floor. This is going to help blend the scratch into the rest of the floor. Anything darker may throw off the color and make the scratch more noticeable.
- 3). Press the wood color stick into the scratch and draw down it, as if you are using a wax crayon. The material from the wood color stick is going to fill the crack. You want to make sure the residue from the stick slightly overflows the floor crack.
- 4). Remove the overflow wood filler with a plastic paint scrapper. Do not use metal because it is more likely to add additional scratches into the floor.
- 5). Rub over the area of the wood filler with a scrubbing sponge. This is going to reduce the shinny gloss of the filling you added.
