National Geographic Kids is an excellent resource for recycling tips and a game called Recycle Roundup. In the game, girls help a monkey clean up the park. The monkey picks up falling trash and places into one of three bins: recycling, trash or compost. Clean up as much as possible in two minutes to get on the high score board. Careful, though, some things can be composted or recycled.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a kids' club website with a variety of games to play like "Sort Mania," which teaches girls how to sort items for recycling. In this game, the goal is to make it through the map from the "Rolling Hills" to the "Majestic Castle" by sorting garbage that comes down a conveyor belt. At the beginning of the game, choose the level you want to play. Easy level comes with color coded garbage to make it easier to tell which bin the item goes in. There is no color coding on the hard level. Girls click on the garbage and drag it to the correct recycling bin. If you put it in the wrong place, it goes in the garbage automatically. At the end of each round you get plants for your virtual garden. Each round gets progressively more difficult.

    Recycle City

Recycle City is the brainchild of the EPA's region 9 office in San Francisco. It offers kids and adults alike a chance to be the City Manager of Dumptown, an awful place full of litter, garbage and pollution. You get to use the taxpayers' money in order to turn Dumptown into Recycle City. Be careful, or you could get fired! You have ten different programs to work with. This is an interactive game that not only helps girls recycle, but gives insight into how city programs work. You can also tour Recycle City, looking for items in a scavenger hunt. Adults can make a list of items to look for and an incentive for finding all of the items.

    Offline games

Offline games for girls to play may include word searches, puzzles and mazes. Hold a relay outside where each team has a bucket of recyclables on one end of the course and bins for glass, plastic, paper and garbage at the other end. Each girl on the team has to race to through the course with one item from the bin and place it in the correct bin. Whoever finishes first gets 10 bonus points, and each team gets a point for every correct bin placement. The team with the most points wins.
