How to Remove the Factory Radio in a 99 Chevy Tahoe

4
    • 1). Shift the Tahoe into gear "1." This requires moving the shifter all the way to the right. It allows the front-dash panel to be removed. Turn the engine off and apply the parking-brake pedal.

    • 2). Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal. Turn the nut on the cable to loosen it, and then lift the cable from the battery terminal.

    • 3). Firmly grab the left side of the front-dash panel (above the left air vent). Pull the top part of the panel toward you firmly to release the internal clips. The top part of the panel should hang free.

    • 4). Push the headlight-switch panel rearward to release it from the dash panel. Apply pressure to the front side, not the back side.

    • 5). Firmly grab the right side of the front-dash panel. Pull the panel toward you firmly to release it. Peer behind the panel to see whether there is a connection between the panel and the dash. Some models have one; others don't. If there is a connection, unplug it to prepare for dash-panel removal.

    • 6). Lift the dash panel upward, above the steering wheel. Move it to either side to allow access to the factory radio.

    • 7). Push the two levers down on either side of the factory radio. This releases the radio. Pull it toward you to remove. Unplug the connections from behind it.
