How to Change the Brake Pads on a Pontiac G5

3
    • 1). Use the tire iron to loosen the lug nuts from one of the front tires. Use the jack to raise that side of the front end and rest it on jack stands. Completely remove the lug nuts from the tire and pull off the tire. Set the tire aside, away from your work area.

    • 2). Use the ratchet set to loosen the bolts on both sides of the brake. Lift up on the brake caliper to remove it from the rotor. Use the flat head screwdriver to pry the metal clips outward, then pull the brake pads from the brake caliper.

    • 3). Connect the brake tool to the inside of the brake caliper, so that the metal rod is placed on the piston and the metal plate is resting on the opposite side of the inside of the caliper. Turn the handle to push the piston back into the caliper.

    • 4). Slide the new brake pads into the brake caliper and push down on them until they snap into place. Place the caliper on top of the rotor and tighten the bolts to secure it to the top of the rotor.

    • 5). Place the tire back on the axle and put the lug nuts back on the tire. Lift the front end of the car with the jack and remove the jack stand from underneath the frame. Lower the front end to the ground and tighten the lug nuts.
