Troubleshoot: iPod Noise Trouble
- 1). Plug your headphones into another headphone jack (such as the one on your computer) and listen to music to test whether the headphones are the source of the poor audio. If you find the headphones are still producing noise when plugged into your computer, replace them. If your iPod is under warranty, the headphones can be replaced for free.
- 2). Reset your iPod. For models with a click-wheel, turn the "Hold" switch on then off again. Push and hold the center button and the "Menu" button for about eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears. For an iPod Shuffle, turn the switch to "Off," wait 10 seconds, then turn the iPod back on. For the iPod Touch, push and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button until "Slide to Power Off" appears in red on the screen. Drag the slider to turn off the iPod then push the "Sleep/Wake" button until the Apple logo appears.
- 3). Restore your iPod to factory settings. Open iTunes and connect your iPod to your computer. Click to select your iPod in the iTunes source panel. Click "Restore" and leave your iPod connected until the "iTunes Setup Assistant" window appears.
