3
    • 1). Launch a Web browser and visit the Kindle Direct Publishing website at kdp.amazon.com.

    • 2). Click "Sign In," located on the right side of the screen. Enter your Amazon.com account email address and password and click "Sign In" again. A new screen titled "Kindle Direct Publishing" will appear.

    • 3). Read and agree to the Terms of Service notice that pops up on screen. Be sure that you carefully examine all the information in the Terms of Service, since this involves your personal work and how it may be sold, marketed, and otherwise used by Amazon.com.

    • 4). Click "Add a New Title," found on the bottom left side of the screen. A new screen asking for book details will load.

    • 5). Type the name of the book, name of the book series (if any,) and a brief explanation of what the book is about into the corresponding blanks in the "Enter Book Details" area. The "Verify Your Publishing Rights" screen will come up.

    • 6). Select the Public Domain Work option for work that is not owned by you but is in the public domain, or the "I Hold Publishing Rights" option for authors or author representatives.

    • 7). Fill out the "Target Your Book to Customers" area. You must select the book category, sub category and add keywords.

    • 8). Fill out the Digital Rights Management option within the "Upload Your Book File" area. This appears automatically and must be completed before you are allowed to actually upload the book. You can either enable DRM or disable DRM. If you check the enable option, anyone who buys your book will be able to loan the book to another Kindle user for a two-week period. If you check the disable option, no lending will be allowed. A "Browse" button will now appear.

    • 9). Click the "Browse" button to browse your personal documents to locate your book.

    • 10

Click the appropriate file. Your book will start the uploading process. A message informing you that the upload is completed will appear when the full book is uploaded to the KDP.

    • 11

Click "Preview" to see your book. This is a copy of the book that buyers will receive. A "Set Retail Price" screen will appear.

    • 12

Designate a price for your book. You may set the price as low as .99 cents, and there is no maximum price as of July 2011. Once the price is set, a "Publish" button will appear.

    • 13

Select "Publish" to submit your work to Amazon for publishing. The book must be reviewed by Amazon.com staff prior to appearing for sale on the site, a process which can take 24-48 hours, according to Amazon.
