How to Change a Goldwing 1200 Rear Tire

13
    • 1). Lay out a large piece of carpeting or other soft fabric on the ground next to your Honda Goldwing 1200. Because the motorcycle's center stand doesn't raise the bike high enough from the ground to remove the rear tire, it will need to rest on its side while you work. Slowly and carefully lower the Goldwing onto its side on the carpeting or fabric you laid out. Ask a friend for help if you fear that you might drop the bike while lowering it.

    • 2). Reach behind the rear fender with a socket or combination wrench 10 or 12 millimeters in size (depending on the year of your bike) to loosen and remove the rear fender mount bolts. Pull the fender away from the rear of the motorcycle. Loosen and remove the five lug nuts that hold the wheel in place, then remove the axle to allow the wheel to slide out of the bottom of the bike.

    • 3). Remove the flat tire from the rear rim using a strong tire lever. If your tires are of the pneumatic tube-filled variety, remove the flat inner tube, as it will also need to be replaced.

    • 4). Set the wheel flat on the ground and set one bead of the new tire on the rim by aligning it with the rim edge and pushing down forcefully. If applicable, put a new tube in the tire and set its valve in the valve hole of the rim. Use the tire-lever to set the second tire bead. When the tire is mounted on the rim, air it up to the specifications found in your motorcycle owner's manual.

    • 5). Set the rear wheel back in place, replace and tighten the wheel axle and five lug nuts. Use the bolts removed previously to reattach the rear fender of the motorcycle. Lift the Goldwing back up onto its wheels and set it on the kickstand to wait for your next ride.
