How do I Change the Transmission Filter on a 1997 Chevrolet?
- 1). Raise the front of the Chevy on one side, using the jack. Lower the Chevy's frame onto the jack stand to safely support the Chevy off the ground.
- 2). Slide under the transmission and place the drain pan under the square metal plate. Remove the bolts from around the edge of the plate using the ratchet with the corresponding-size socket. Allow the transmission fluid to drain into the pan.
- 3). Look inside the transmission and locate the filter. The filter is a small metal can. Turn the filter to the left until it comes off the transmission.
- 4). Screw the new filter onto the transmission. Replace the metal plate to the bottom of the transmission. Tighten the bolts to the torque specs. Lower the Chevy to the ground.
