How to Open Zipped Files in Vista

    Unzip All Files

    • 1). Navigate to the folder or area where the zipped file is located.

    • 2). Double-click the zipped file. A window appears displaying all of the files in the zipped folder.

    • 3). Click "Extract all files" beneath the Menu toolbar. The Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders dialog box appears on the screen.

    • 4). Click "Browse" on the right side of the dialog box. The "Select a destination" dialog box appears on the screen.

    • 5). Click the expansion boxes to the left of the folders to navigate to the folder where you want to place the files within the zipped file, then click "OK."

    • 6). Click "Extract." A file transfer box appears on the screen with a blue progress bar, displaying the progress of the file extraction. When the file transfer box disappears, the file extraction will be complete and the files will be unzipped to the destination folder you specified.

    Unzip Select Files

    • 1). Navigate to the folder or area where the zipped file is located.

    • 2). Double-click the zipped file. A window appears displaying all of the files in the zipped file.

    • 3). Click the "Restore Down" button in the upper-right corner of the window to shrink the window if it was maximized.

    • 4). Navigate in a separate window to the folder to which you want to extract select files within the zipped folder. Click the "Restore Down" button within this folder as well.

    • 5). Click within the window containing the zipped files. Hold down the "Ctrl" key and click to select any of the files you want to move to the destination folder.

    • 6). Right-click the highlighted files, then click "Copy."

    • 7). Click within the destination folder. Right-click within the folder, then click "Paste." The selected files will be pasted into the destination folder.
