How to Kill Root Weevils
- 1). Place a thin piece of cloth under the plant you believe is infested with root weevils. Shake the plant until you see root weevils fall onto the cloth and you can identify the insects.
- 2). Pound 12-inch-high stakes into the yard in several areas. Wrap the stakes with plastic or cardboard. This mimics the hiding environment of the root weevil. Try moving the stakes around every few days to find the best area to trap the root weevils. These traps will reduce root weevil numbers throughout the yard, making final chemical control easier.
- 3). Place on the ground squares of 1/2-inch-thick plywood, 2 feet by 2 feet in size, which also act as traps. Check under them daily before nightfall to find root weevils.
- 4). Mix neem pesticide with water according to the instructions on the packaging and soak the soil around the plant to kill any root weevils left in the area.
