How to Patch Vinyl Boats
- 1). Identify the area of the leak. Cut the vinyl patch 1/2 inch larger than the hole. Mark the leak with masking tape. Deflate the boat completely. Once the boat is deflated, locate the tape marking the leak.
- 2). Carefully remove the masking tape. Wipe the area to be patched with an alcohol prep wipe.
- 3). Place adhesive on both the area to be patched and the patch. Press the patch firmly to the area that needs to be patched.
- 4). Smooth the patch with a craft stick to ensure no air bubbles remain. An air bubble may cause the patch to peel away. Reinflate the boat.
- 5). Test the area that has been patched with a mixture of dish washing soap and water. Pour a small amount of the mixture over the new patch, if the area bubbles continuously, the leak has not been repaired. Deflate the boat and repeat the repair.
