Construction Paper Badge

• Cut two stars and one circle from different-colored pieces of construction paper. The circle should be the size of the inside of the smaller star. The other star should be slightly larger and will be the base of the badge. Write "Sheriff" on the circle along with your child's name or town he wishes to patrol. Glue the circle to the center of the smaller star and then to the larger star. Place small gold/silver fasteners or beads at the end of the star points on the larger star to complete the badge. Attach the badge to your child's shirt with a safety pin.
  
  

Fabric Badge

• Use scraps of fabric from around the house to create a badge. Embroider the fabric with the word "Sheriff" or write it on the fabric with a fabric pen. Cut the fabric in the shape of a star. Attach small circles of fabric or little beads to the tip of each star point. Sew the badge to your child's shirt with a loose running stitch or attach it with a safety pin.
  
  

Printed Badge

• Choose a photo from the Internet of a sheriff's badge. Save the image to your computer and edit it with Photoshop or Microsoft Word. Add your child's name to the badge or change the colors. Print the image on card-stock or photo paper. Glue the image to another piece of card-stock or cardboard to make it sturdier for play. Cut around the outline of the image. Attach the badge to your child's shirt with double-sided tape or a safety pin.
  
  

Hammered Metal Badge

• Use a thin metal sheet to make a more realistic-looking badge. You can find thin craft metal at large craft or hardware stores. Draw the shape of a star with circles at the end of each tip on the metal sheet with a marker. Work from the backside of the metal sheet, which is typically less shiny. Draw the design of the badge and any lettering. Place the metal sheet on a cutting board before hammering it out. Press dots into the metal along the lines you drew with a sharpened pencil and a hammer. You do not need to hammer too hard to make an indent with the pencil. On the opposite side you will see the embossed design of the badge. Cut the badge free from the metal sheet with a pair of scissors. Glue the badge to a piece of fabric or leather. Check the batch for any sharp edges before attaching it to your child's shirt with a safety pin.
