How to Make a Microphone Isolation Cable
- 1). Cut a four-inch segment of audio cable. Trim back the foil shield on each side of the wire segment so that one inch of insulated wire is exposed at each side of the cable segment. Strip half an inch of insulating material off the ends of each wire.
- 2). Solder one end of the stripped white wire on the four-inch cable segment to the right-hand terminal (from the top, facing you) on the female microphone plug. Solder the end of the stripped black wire to the left-hand terminal on the female microphone plug. Solder the bare (uninsulated) wire to the center-bottom terminal on the female microphone plug.

Solder the free end of the bare wire from the four-inch cable segment to the center-tap on the primary side of the isolation transformer. Solder the free end of the white wire to one of the primary terminals on the transformer. Solder the free end of the black wire to the remaining primary terminal on the transformer. - 4). Cut an eight-inch segment of wire. Trim back the foil shield on each side of the eight-inch wire segment so that one inch of insulated wire is exposed at each side of the cable segment. Strip half an inch of insulating material off the ends of each wire.
- 5). Solder the free end of the bare wire on the eight-inch cable segment to the center-tap on the transformer secondary. Solder the free end of the white wire to one of the secondary terminals on the transformer. Solder the free end of the black wire to the remaining transformer secondary terminal.
- 6). Solder one end of the stripped white wire on the eight-inch cable segment to the right-side terminal on the male microphone plug. Solder one end of the stripped black wire to the left-side terminal on the male microphone plug. Solder the uninsulated wire to the center terminal on the microphone plug.
