If you plan on building a home-gym then you have come to the right place.
Every gym needs a good amount of equipment for an effective workout.
For cardio you will need a treadmill.
They usually range from $800-$5000 depending on what you are getting.
I would recommend a good quality treadmill if you plan on doing cardio a lot.
For weights, I would recommend plates up to 500 pounds.

However, if your just starting out; only about 250 pounds is needed.
Once you get stronger you can always buy more weight plates.
To hold these weights you are going to need a barbell.
You want to buy a thick, olympic-style barbell.
They weight 45 pounds.
The most important piece of equipment you need is a squat rack to do squats and rack pulls.
Squats are the most important exercise and you can't miss out on them.
You will also need dumbbells to do some exercises that you cannot do with a barbell.
Dumbbell exercises are also good to switch over if you are in a middle of a plateau and need to switch up your workout.
You will also need a chinup bar that can hook up to the top of a door walkway.
They are generally cheap and you can usually find one at Wal-Mart for only $10-$30.
A home gym is a big investment and make sure you have good quality equipment to last you a lifetime.
A return on your investment will come in time with a better looking body.
You will also save gas overtime from not having to go to the gym all the time.
Also make sure to buy some safety equipment like a lifting belt, lifting gloves, and knee/ankle braces if needed.
