How to Convert a 60-Foot to a 70-Foot Baseball Diamond
- 1). Measure 69 feet from the front two corners of home plate along your existing first and third base lines, respectively. Mark the points in the grass with an X, using marking paint.
- 2). Measure 99 feet back from the apex of home plate toward your existing second base. Mark the point in the grass with an X, using marking paint.
- 3). Dig out the grass in an arc extending back about 3 feet from the points you have marked, using your sod cutter. Make sure all of the grass is removed.
- 4). Replace the dug-out grass with your infield mix. Make sure the levels are smooth and even with the existing infield.
- 5). Anchor the center of your three bases at the three points your marked in Steps 1 and 2.
- 6). Extend the pitching mound back toward your new second base mark by 4 feet using pitching mound clay.
- 7). Take off 4 feet from the front of the existing pitching mound structure using a dirt rake.
- 8). Move the rubber of the pitching mound back toward your new second base line by 4 feet.
- 9). Refine the shape and contours of the mound to adhere to your league's specifications. These will be different for each individual league, and can be found in your league's guidelines.

Take a final measurement of the distance from home plate to each base and the pitching mound and make any adjustments necessary to complete the conversion.
