How to Remove Rust on a Meat Grinder Disc

5
    • 1). Fold a towel and set the rusty meat grinder disc in the middle of it. Hold the disc in place with one hand as you attempt to scrape any large flakes of rust from the surface with a putty knife. Push the edge of the knife away from your body as you scrape both sides of the disc.

    • 2). Apply a few drops of mineral or vegetable oil to both sides of the disc and brush it around with the wire brush. Use medium-heavy pressure and a tight circular motion to scrub away as much rust as possible. Stainless steel and brass bristled brushes with offset handles work the best when removing rust.

    • 3). Cover your hands with thick rubber gloves before picking up the meat grinder disc and rubbing its surface with a soap-free steel wool pad. Use lighter pressure and continue in a tight circular motion spending extra time on any stubborn rust spots that remain.

    • 4). Cover the disc in oil again and use a needle file to clean rust from both sides of the individual holes. Twist the needle file when it makes contact with all sides of the hole. Graduated needle files have narrow points that fit into the tiniest grinder disc holes.

    • 5). Wash the oily meat grinder disc in liquid dish soap and dry it thoroughly. Use the grinder disc right away or store it in a layer of mineral or vegetable oil in an air-tight container.
