How to Build a Dog Run of Chain Link Fencing

10
    • 1). Plan your location and measure the length and width of the area. Draw it out on a piece of graph paper and locate your gate. Decide how high you want the fencing, which will depend on the size of your dog and whether he is a jumper or not. Gather your materials.

    • 2). Measure out the area and place stakes just beyond the corners. Run a string between the stakes so they criss-cross to show you where the exact corner will be.

    • 3). Dig holes for the end and corner posts. These holes should be about 6 inches in diameter and at least 2 feet down, depending on the height of your fence. Try to make the bottom of the hole slightly larger than the top to anchor the posts into place.

    • 4). Using a crayon, mark the end posts to the height they will be buried, so they are all even. Place the end posts in and fill the holes with concrete. Try to mound the concrete and slope it out at the top to keep water from pooling around the posts.

    • 5). Run a string from the top of one end post to the next. This will give you a height line for your line posts. Dig the holes for your line posts and install them.

    • 6). Hook end connectors to the end posts for hooking on the fence. Hook the fencing to the connectors and pull to the next end and attach. Using a fence stretcher, pull the fencing tight and reconnect the end so it is tight. Use fence ties to attach the fencing to the line posts and continue until the fencing is all the way around.

    • 7). Attach the gate and closing mechanism. Make sure to purchase a gate that goes all the way to the ground so the dog cannot just crawl under it.
