How to Use the Correct Electric Motor for an RC Plane Size
- 1). Evaluate the model of airplane, whether it is a basic trainer, or a more advanced stunt plane. The type of flying that you plan to do with it will help you determine what engine to use.
- 2). Measure the wingspan and fuselage with the measuring tape, or take a look at the specifications on the box or instruction. Size matters. A small plane calls for a smaller, less-powerful engine.
- 3). Honestly measure your skills as a flier. If you're new to RC flying, you want an engine that's easier to control. If you're an experienced flyer, then you have your choice of motors.
- 4). Choose your motor. A two-stroke engine is less powerful and easier to handle. These work well with smaller planes, and are best for beginners. A four-stroke engine will fly faster, requires more maintenance, and is best for experienced fliers and bigger airplanes.
