How to Remove Silicone Glue From Fiberglass
- 1). Wet the silicone glue with rags soaked in water. The water softens the caulk and helps to reduce scratching during removal.
- 2). Poke a putty knife or butter knife at one end of the silicone glue on the fiberglass. Try to get your finger under the glue and pull the rubbery silicone slowly from the fiberglass.
- 3). Wet the fragments of silicone glue still stuck to the fiberglass with the soaked rags.
- 4). Cut the leftover glue from the fiberglass with a straight edged razor. Angle the razor so only the tip glides under the glue to remove it, to avoid scratching the fiberglass. Wet the area as you continue to scrape with the razor.
- 5). Apply rubbing alcohol to stubborn silicone glue that clings to the fiberglass. The silicone absorbs the rubbing alcohol causing it to swell and pull away from the fiberglass. Leave the rubbing alcohol on the silicone for an hour, then scrape away with the razor.
- 6). Clean the fiberglass with your normal cleaning products and a sponge to remove all caulking pieces and the rubbing alcohol. Rinse the fiberglass thoroughly with cool water.
