How to Fix the Task Manager in Vista
- 1). Access the Task Manager. Press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" or "Ctrl+Shift+Esc."
- 2). Scan your computer for malware. Malware often disables the Task Manager so that you cannot turn off its processes. Fix this problem by removing the malware files with an antimalware program. If your computer does not have an antimalware program, download one from the Internet (see Resources).
- 3). Enable the Task Manager. Log into your computer using an administrator account. This will allow you to access the Registry Editor.
- 4). Go to the Start Menu and type "regedit" in the search bar and press "Enter." If you have Windows XP, click "Run," type "msconfig" and press "Enter."
- 5). Navigate to the following location: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies."
- 6). Go to the "System" folder. Double-click "DisableTaskMgr." Change the value to zero.
