How to Calculate the Size of a Backsplash
- 1). Use a pencil, ruler and piece of paper to draw a diagram of your new backsplash. As you take measurements, write each measurement down on your piece of paper so you don't lose track of the figures or mix up any numbers.
- 2). Use a tape measure to measure the dimensions of the area where you would like to install your new backsplash. Write the lengths and widths down on your diagram in inches.
- 3). Multiply the length by the width of your diagram to get the total square inches for your backsplash. Divide this number by 12 to get the total square footage for your backsplash.
- 4). Take 10 percent of the square footage for your backsplash and add this number to the figure you came up with in step three. This is the total square footage of tiles you need to purchase for your new backsplash.
