How to Fit Steel Sheeting

1
    • 1). Measure the length and width of the area to fit with steel sheeting. If the area is an odd shape, tape a large sheet of paper on the area and trace the outline of what you want to cover with steel sheeting. Mark any existing bolt holes on the paper so you can pre-drill the bolt holes in the sheeting later. If there are no existing bolt holes then use a stud finder and measuring tape to locate suitable studs for the bolts.

    • 2). Place the steel sheeting on a clear work space. Based on your measurements, mark the section you want to cut out. If using the stencil method, lay the paper over the steel sheet and tape it in place. Put on safety goggles and work gloves. Cut the steel sheeting, using shop shears, slowly to minimize possible errors. When done, use an angle grinder to smooth the edges.

    • 3). Mark areas for the bolt holes on the metal sheet. Drill all the way through with a power drill mounted with a metal drill bit. Take the bit out periodically to prevent it from overheating due to friction. Move the metal sheet and place the sheet against the area to be fitted. Slide in the bolts, then the nuts, and wrench them down until the steel sheet is flush with the wall.

    • 4). Grind down any excess metal sheeting with a angle grinder once the sheet is fitted. Bend down the edges of the metal sheeting with a rubber mallet to prevent it from snagging anything.
