1987 Jeep Wrangler Stereo Installation
- 1). Raise the Jeep's hood. Loosen the negative battery cable clamp's bolt with the wrench. Remove the cable from the battery terminal and set it aside. Move to the Jeep's interior.
- 2). Remove the six screws from the trim panel with the Phillips screwdriver. Pry the dash panel surrounding the stereo and climate vents from the dashboard with the trim panel removal tool. Remove the panel and set it aside. Remove the screws holding the stock stereo into the vehicle's stereo bracket and slide the unit from the dash. Remove the stereo wiring from the outlets on the back of the radio and unplug the antenna cable. Set the factory head unit aside.
- 3). Insert the installation sleeve into the dashboard stereo dock. Pull the stereo wiring and antenna cable through to the front of the dash. Fold the metal tabs on the inside of the sleeve outward with the flat screwdriver.
- 4). Plug the Jeep's stereo wiring into the wiring harness adapter. Plug the adapter's lead connectors into the outlets on the back of the new stereo unit. Insert the antenna cable lead into the FM/AM antenna input on the back of the new stereo. Slide the deck into the installation sleeve until it snaps into place.
- 5). Place the dashboard trim panel back into place on the dashboard. Screw in the six screws with the Phillips screwdriver to secure the panel to the dashboard. Return to the Jeep's battery.
- 6). Place the battery cable's clamp back onto the battery terminal. Tighten the cable's bolt with the wrench. Close the Jeep's hood.
