Using super glue can be tricky because it dries quickly and it adheres to almost everything. This can lead to you gluing your fingers together, gluing yourself to another object or gluing two objects together mistakenly. Likewise, if you simply get too much super glue on something it can be difficult to remove the excess. That being said, difficult does not mean impossible, and super glue can be removed through a variety of methods. - Nail polish remover with acetone can be used to remove super glue. Acetone is a solvent, so it will dissolve the glue from an item when applied. That being said, acetone can also strip the paint or finish from an item, so it should be used with caution. Acetone nail polish remover is ideal for soaking super glued fingers. Reader's Digest recommends soaking a cotton-ball in acetone nail polish remover and holding on the glued area until the seal starts to loosen.
- WD-40 can be used for more than just oiling a squeaky hinge. According to Reader's Digest, WD-40 can also loosen the hold of strong adhesives such as super glue. For instance, if your fingers are glued together, spray a little WD-40 between them. In no time at all they should be able to wiggle loose. You can also use WD-40 to separate an adhesive bond on other surfaces.
- Petroleum breaks down super glue over time. Rubbing petroleum jelly on an item on which you cannot use acetone will help loosen the adhesive bond of super glue. This may take a bit longer, but it is milder for those with sensitive skin and less damaging to finished furniture.
