Can You Install Windows XP Over Ubuntu?
- If you want to completely wipe out Ubuntu from your system and install XP, save your files and documents on an external storage device like a USB thumb drive or a CD-R. This will completely erase all data on your hard drive and replace it with WIndows XP.
Insert the XP disc into the drive, and restart your computer. It will automatically boot from the XP disc and send you into a Windows menu. Choose the option "Install Windows." When it asks if you want to use the entire hard drive, select "Yes." You may see a graph showing Ubuntu and where it is installed. Select "OK," and allow XP to install. Now, when you restart your computer, there will only be Windows and Ubuntu will be gone. - If you want the option at system start-up to boot either XP or Ubuntu, you can install Ubuntu on a partition of your hard drive after following the instructions from the preceding section.
Insert the Ubuntu Live CD into the drive, and restart your computer. On the boot menu, select "Install Ubuntu." This will take you to a screen where you can choose a partition to install on. Select the partition that has XP already on it, and click "OK." This will install Ubuntu on a portion of your hard drive, and you'll have the option to load either operating system when you start up the computer.
