Specifications of a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS
- The Eclipse is Mitsubishi's entry into the sports coupe competition. It was originally built in Normal, Illinois and was sold under three different brands: Mitsubishi, Eagle and Plymouth. By 1998 the Mitsubishi version was the only one left on the market. The 2002 model offered five trim levels, including the RS.
- The RS came with a standard 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. It had 140 horsepower, 155 foot-pounds of torque, four valves per cylinder, single overhead cam, 3.41 inches of bore and a 3.94-inch stroke, and a 9.0-1 compression ratio. An optional 2.4-liter engine offered 147 horsepower, 158 foot-pounds of torque and a 9.1-1 compression ratio. All other specifications were identical. A five-speed manual overdrive transmission was standard for the RS. An optional four-speed automatic overdrive transmission was also available.
- The RS's fuel tank held 16.40 gallons of gasoline. The five-speed manual transmission got 23 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. The four-speed got 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway.
- The RS had two doors and stood 51.60 inches tall. It was 174.40 inches tall and 68.90 inches wide with a 100.80-inch wheelbase, 5.80 inches of ground clearance and 16.90 cubic feet of cargo space . It weighed 2,922 pounds with the automatic transmission and 2,855 pounds with the manual.
- The 2002 Eclipse could seat up to four people. Front passengers got 37.90 inches of headroom, 42.30 inches of legroom, 52.20 inches of shoulder room and 44.70 inches of hip room. Rear passengers could expect 34.90 inches of headroom, 30.20 inches of legroom, 52 inches of shoulder room and 44.70 inches of hip room.
