How to Install a 1-by-1-inch Tile Backsplash
- 1). Measure the area of the backsplash from corner to corner, using the tape measure.
- 2). Draw a center line with the level. Using the notched trowel, spread the tile mastic from the center line on either side.
- 3). Place the first tile where you put the tile mastic. Apply mastic on the other side of the center line. Continue doing this until you have a bottom row. Cut the tile as needed with the wet saw. Check levelness with the level.
- 4). Push in on each tile to make sure the tile is in the mastic. Let this dry for at least 24 hours.
- 5). Mix water and grout together to a peanut butter consistency. Spread the grout at a 45-degree angle. Continue this until all of the spaces in between the tile are filled with grout.
- 6). Wipe off excess grout with a damp sponge. Rinse the sponge out often; if not, you will smear the grout all over the tile.
