How to Make a Handle for a Cardboard Carrying Case

4
    • 1). Decide what length you would like the handle to be. If you want to be able to carry the case over your shoulder or across your body, you will need a much longer handle.

    • 2). Measure the length across your body or to your shoulder using the tape measure and double the measurement to determine the length of the handle. If you plan to hold the carrying case like a briefcase and just want a short handle, use 12 inches for your measurement.

    • 3). Cut the yarn, string or cord to the length you measured plus six more inches for attaching the handle to the case. String may not be as attractive as yarn, but it is sturdier, so if you need a stronger handle, string or cord is a better choice than yarn. If you are using yarn, double, triple or even quadruple the number of strands you use to thicken and strengthen the handle. Braid the strands together.

    • 4). Knot both ends of the string or yarn multiple times so that you create a large knot, approximately one-half inch in diameter.

    • 5). Staple the string or yarn just above the knot at the top of the cardboard carrying case. Make sure the knot doesn't slip through the staple. If it does, make the knot larger. Staple several more times.
