Removing the Old Window Frames

• 1). Cut away any caulk sealing the window trim, using a utility knife.
  
  
• 2). Pry the trim away from the window frame with a pry bar. Insert the pry bar into the seam between the window trim and the concrete wall opening and pull to lift the trim pieces away.
  
  
• 3). Cut away any caulk sealing the window frame to the window buck with your utility knife.
  
  
• 4). Unfasten the window from the buck. Window frames can either be screwed or nailed to the buck. Use a cordless drill with the appropriate bit to remove screws, or a flat-head screwdriver and claw hammer to pull nails.
  
  
• 5). Pull the window out of the window opening.
  
  

Installing New Windows

• 1). Inspect and prepare the buck. Remove any extruding nails or pound them flush with a hammer. Fill any gouges or holes with wood putty and a putty knife. If the buck boards are water-damaged or rotten, remove and replace them.
  
  
• 2). Lift the window into place, with help from an assistant. Set the base of the window in the window opening, and then lift the window into place. Slight gaps should be around the window.
  
  
• 3). Remove the window from the window opening and set it aside. Run a bead of caulk around the inside of the window opening, using a caulking gun.
  
  
• 4). Place the window again. Check the level and plumb of the window and use shims to adjust accordingly and to secure the window within the opening.
  
  
• 5). Fasten the window with corrosion-resistant fasteners.
  
  
• 6). Trim the window. Cut the trim to size and position it around the window opening.
  
  
• 7). Seal the trim with a bead of caulk run on the inside and outside window trim joints.
