Beach Attractions in South Laguna, California
- Table Rock Beach is a beautiful public beach in south Laguna Beach that is very hard to get to, with a 150-step stairway to climb before you reach the beach itself. At one end of the beach is a natural archway over the ocean. If you peek through, you can see Thousand Steps Beach on the other side -- but be careful of the wild surf around the arch, and don't try to swim through. Waves crash right over Table Rock, just offshore. With a very short break, the waves crash close enough to shore for good skimboarding on the beach.
- It only feels like it's 1,000 steps down to this beach; in reality, you're only climbing about 12 flights of stairs down and up again. Thousand Steps Beach in South Laguna has a volleyball court, as well as restroom facilities and a shower. The waves break close in to shore, allowing for great skimboarding. A cave at the south end of the beach is easily accessible at low tide, and is open at both ends. On the other side of the cave is a private beach with small tidepools; because it's a private beach, the public must stay below the high tide line.
- At the heart of Victoria Beach in South Laguna Beach is Victoria Tower, which dates back to 1936 and encloses a tall spiral staircase. While Victoria Tower is no longer used, Victoria Beach itself is long and flat, and popular with skimboarders. The beach is within easy walking distance of several restaurants on Pacific Coast Highway. It can be reached through stairs at the intersection of Victoria Drive and Pacific Coast Highway, or though a tunnel which proceeds from the end of Nyes Place.
- Aliso Beach is a long, flat beach immediately below The Montage Hotel in South Laguna Beach. While there are some rocks to climb, local lifeguards often warn visitors away from them for safety reasons. Children can instead climb on structures in the Aliso Beach playground, which also has a swing set and slides. Aliso Beach has public restrooms and, unusual for South Laguna beaches, public parking. At the end of the beach is Treasure Island, with its unusual circular natural arch, and Goff's Island is also visible from the beach. With waves that typically are very gentle, Aliso Beach is a safe and pleasant beach for families.
