Encinitas Sushi Lounge: Family Friendly Sushi in Encinitas
My husband and I love sushi, but after our daughter was born we found we were a bit weary to take her to most of our favorite sushi spots. They either were hole in the wall type joints that didn't have space to put a carseat or stroller, or they were more upscale establishments where we figured we could assume some pretty dirty glances if she started fussing in the middle of dinner. Then my husband heard of Encinitas Sushi Lounge in a quiet area of North County and that it was pretty kid friendly.
We decided to give it a try one night when our sushi cravings were especially intense.
Encinitas Sushi Lounge is located at the end of a strip mall and has plenty of parking. Inside it is an open space with a combination of booths and low top tables with chairs. There is also a sushi bar on the back end of the restaurant.
We were seated at a table that had a booth on one side that was wide enough to easily fit the carseat holding our baby, meaning we didn't need to worry about holding her and could enjoy an adult conversation while she slept! The open floor plan provided a loud haze of conversations. That and the music playing provided a loud (but not too loud) atmosphere that was also nice with a baby or kids as any antics would be drowned out by the background notice. The environment was conducive for parent relaxation. I ordered some edamame (which came served with plenty of sea salt, just how I like it) and then began examining the menu.
Encinitas Sushi Lounge's menu consists of a variety of sashimi, traditional rolls and some pretty inventive sounding specialty rolls.
I got a rainbow roll as usual and it was fresh with plenty of avocado -- always a plus in my book. I also tried the Fuzzy Navel roll, which was interesting with asparagus, sprouts, avocado, spicy tuna and salmon. It was more mild than I was expecting but still tasty and enjoyable. The menu also has Bento boxes, Teriyaki chicken and other meat and non-sushi entrees on it.
Service was friendly and fast and just the right amount of time before our daughter woke up and it was time to head home with our bellies happily full of sushi.
