Types

• There are six major types of Dremel tool accessories, including those for rotary tools, oscillating tools, scroll saws, engravers, VersaTip tools and contour sander tools. Dremel rotary tools are the most versatile, and have the widest variety of available accessories. More specialized Dremel tools, such as the engraver tool, have only two accessories available.
  
  

Function

• For the Dremel rotary tools, there are accessories for carving, engraving, cleaning, polishing, cutting, grinding, sharpening, routing, sanding and drilling. The oscillating tools offer accessories for cutting, sanding, scraping and grout removal. Scroll saw accessories include blades as well as stands. The engraver tool accessories include a replacement carbide engraving point and a diamond engraving point. The VersaTip accessories include tool tips for cutting, soldering, grading, wood-burning and leather-crafting. The accessories for the contour sander tool include sand paper and sanding tubes, as well as convex and concave sanding contours for specially shaped sanding projects.

• For the Dremel rotary tools, the carving accessories include high-speed, tungsten carbide, structured tooth and diamond wheel cutters, as well as engraving cutters. Polishing accessories include wheels and brushes, as well as rubber points and a polishing compound. Cutting accessories include bits and wheels with crosscut blades, diamond heads and specially shaped edges. Grinding accessories include wheels, stones and abrasive points for fine grinding. Sanding accessories include wheels and bands, as well as finishing buffs. The Dremel oscillating tool offers accessories for cutting wood, metal and drywall, sand paper for wood or paint removal, and flexible, rigid or grout remover scraper blades.
  
  

Size

• The rotary tool accessories are available individually, or in kits. The general kits include 185-piece, 150-piece, 75-piece accessory sets, as well as 52-piece or 145-piece bit sets. The rotary tool also offers a cutting, carving and sanding kit with 48 pieces, an 11-piece carving and engraving kit, and 11-piece lock-cutting kit, a 31-piece sanding and grinding kit, a cut-off wheel kit and a set of 6 router bits. The rotary tool also offers a cleaning and polishing accessory kit. Accessories for the other types of Dremel tools are available individually.

• When choosing Dremel tool accessories, it's important to consider the type of Dremel tool you have, and the type of project you want to do. Fortunately, the Dremel website has an easy-to-use accessory finder that allows you to choose the model of tool you have, the type of function you want, such as cutting or engraving, and the material you want to work with, such as wood, glass or plastic. The website will then display a list of available accessories for that particular tool and project (see Resources below).
