• A handmade cherry cedar-lined chest is generally constructed with a cedar interior or, at minimum, a cedar floor (or base). The exterior enclosing the cedar lining, however, can be made of many different kinds of wood. The wood is then given a cherry-cedar veneer. There are three main advantages to having an interior made of cedar. The first is that its smell is appealing, and makes the objects stored inside the chest aromatic as well. The second is that the cedar lining can actually make fabrics last longer. Finally, cherry ages well. As woodworker Erik Schimek describes it, cherry glows as it gets older, and it lasts a long time.
