How to Apply a Swirl Texture to a Drywall Ceiling
- 1). Mix drywall texturing compound with water in a bucket. Stir the mixture with a drill mixer and add water until it is about the thickness of a wet mud.
- 2). Spread the compound on the ceiling with a trowel, starting in a corner. Cover about a 3-foot by 3-foot area.
- 3). Prepare a bucket of water to rinse your brush in as you work.
- 4). Brush through the compound with a bristle or wire brush. Swirl the brush in a pattern of your choice. You can twist the brush around in a circle to form circles, move it in a semi-circle or create an S pattern.
- 5). Spread more compound on the ceiling in a section next to the first. Repeat the pattern, and overlap as necessary to cover seams. Continue until the ceiling is covered.
- 6). Leave the surface to dry for a day.
