How to Remove the Solar Tint From Patio Glass Windows
- 1). Protect the floors around the patio windows by laying down drop cloths. Move any furnishings near the area or cover them with another drop cloth.
- 2). Pour full-strength ammonia into a spray bottle. Thoroughly soak the windows with ammonia, making sure to spray into the corners.
- 3). Unroll several lengths of plastic sandwich wrap and apply them to the glass. This will seal the ammonia onto the glass and allow it to soak in, softening the film. If any areas appear to dry out, lift the plastic wrap and respray the glass.
- 4). Allow the ammonia to soak in for 45 minutes to an hour. The film will begin to wrinkle, indicating it is ready to be worked off. If you do not notice any wrinkling, you might need to lift the plastic wrap and spray more ammonia on the glass.
- 5). Remove one strip of plastic wrap at a time. Start in one corner and gradually begin lifting off the tinted film using a sharp single-edged razor blade. Gently pull the film while scraping it off.
- 6). Change out razor blades often, as they will become coated with old adhesive, making it harder to scrape off the film.
- 7). Spray the windows down one more time with ammonia after all the film has been removed. Scrape off any remaining adhesive.
- 8). Wash the windows with a window cleaner once they are free of adhesive. Wipe the windows dry with paper towels.
