How to Clean Metal Awnings
- 1). Spray the awning with a pressure washer to remove much of the dirt, debris and other accumulation. The water pressure combined with the heat will effectively improve your awning's appearance. You may need a ladder to reach the awning appropriately. Use caution with an aluminum awning because too much water pressure could dent it.
- 2). Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid into a bucket and mix it with hot water. Dishwashing liquid is a degreaser and is very useful in breaking up dirt and oils.
- 3). Pour the bucket of soapy water over the awning. Scrub the awning with a nylon scrub brush to remove any stubborn stains. Avoid using metal brushes because they could scratch the metal, especially if it is painted.
- 4). Treat the awning with a metal cleaner if any stubborn stains remain. Most metal cleaners are applied with the nylon brush and then rinsed off afterward. Follow all instructions on the container.
