DIY Projector Mount
- You will need only a few things to build your projector mount. The tools you need are a hacksaw, wrench and cordless drill. You can purchase all the parts that you need for the projector at a local hardware store. You will need 20 5/16-inch bolts with nuts and washers, a length of 1 ½-inch PVC pipe that will be long enough so your projector hangs as far from the ceiling as you want it, screws to fit the mounting holes in the projector, a 4-inch closet flange with rotating metal ring, a 4 x ½-inch reducing bell, and a shower drain with a wide lip.
- Place the smaller end of the closet flange into the top end of the reducing bell. The metal ring should be on top, and the smaller end of the bell should be on the bottom. Drill a hole slightly bigger than 5/16 inch through the wide end of the bell, making sure you are going through the flange as well. Then bolt the reducing bell and the flange together with a bolt, washer, and nut. Make sure you get several bolts into the reducing bell as this will make that piece studier and less likely to come apart. This is the portion that will be going into the ceiling.
Next, you will want to drill holes in the shower drain to match up with your projector mounting holes. Measure the holes in the projector and then transfer the measurements to the drain. (A good way to do this it to place a piece of paper over the holes and poke through where the holes are. Transfer this paper to the shower drain and mark the holes.) Drill the holes in the shower drain.
Now you are ready for assembly. First, decide how far from the ceiling you want your PVC pipe to hang down, and cut it to match that distance, taking into account the length of the fittings. Place one end of the PVC pipe into the shower drain, and drill three or four holes through both items. Bolt the PVC pile to the shower drain. Then repeat this for the PVC pipe attachment to the reducing bell. Once you have the whole thing together, you might want to paint it to give it a more finished look. - Using the predrilled holes in the closet flange, screw the mount to the ceiling. Once it is there and you are sure it can hold the weight of the projector, screw the projector into the drain using the screws you bought for the mounting holes. Remember, never screw a projector to a mount if you are not 100 percent sure it will hold the weight.
