How to Make a House Shaped Storage Box

1
    • 1). Cover the table with a double layer of newspaper.

    • 2). Check the tape holding the box's bottom flaps. Cover the box with duct tape from one end to the other if the existing tape doesn't look strong enough. Cut the duct tape so it's even with the bottom edges of the box.

    • 3). Reinforce the inside bottom edges of the box with duct tape if you'll be moving the storage box or carrying it with anything heavy inside.

    • 4). Draw a door and windows on the box, as well as bushes, flower boxes and curtains.

    • 5). Turn the box right side up and cut the flaps off carefully with the craft knife.

    • 6). Tape two of the flaps together lengthwise along the edges you didn't cut. Turn them taped side down. Tape the other two flaps the same way.

    • 7). Center the second set of flaps on top of the first set, taped side down, with the line of tape running in the opposite direction of the first set to make the lid stronger. Tape the layers together all the way around. Start the duct tape at one corner, and run the tape so the middle runs down the edge of the lid. Fold half of the tape over each side of the lid. Repeat on each edge of the lid. Add a second layer of tape over the first to help the lid fit.

    • 8). Rest the lid on the box. Create a hinge for the lid with duct tape by running it along one edge of the lid so half the tape attaches to the lid. Cut the tape and press the other half of the tape down on the box's side. Apply a second length of tape over the first to strengthen the hinge.

    • 9). Open the lid and prop it against the wall so it's out of the way. Attach a piece of duct tape inside the box, running it lengthwise along the seam between the box and the lid as a hinge, with half of the tape's width on the lid and half on the box. Cut the tape at the end of the lid and press it along the seam.

    • 10

Close the box lid, and fold a piece of cardboard in half to create a peaked roof.

    • 11

Apply a piece of duct tape along each lower edge of the roof on the inside. Apply the tape so only half the width touches the roof, and leave the other half facing outward to stick to the house.

    • 12

Install the roof. Fold the tape on each side of the roof edge so the sticky side attaches to the lid along each side. Use your fingers to press down firmly on the tape from the front of the house to the back.

    • 13

Turn the house on its side on the second piece of cardboard with one roof end on the cardboard. Trace the roof's peak on the cardboard to create the triangle to close the house wall under the roof. Line up the ruler across the open end of the triangle and draw a line across.

    • 14

Cut out the triangle and trace it on the cardboard. Cut out the second triangle.

    • 15

Apply glue around the outer edge of one of the triangles. Place the triangle under the peaked roof lined up with the house wall. Press down on the roof gently on each side and hold for a slow count of 60 to help the glue adhere. Repeat on the other end of the roof with the second triangle.

    • 16

Paint the walls and roof and allow them to dry until the paint feels dry to the touch. Apply a second coat for deeper color and greater durability.

    • 17

Paint the door and window trim in a different color from the walls. Paint the bushes and window boxes to complete the house-shaped storage box.
