  The appearance of tiled dropped ceilings can be dramatically improved with paint, correct lighting, colorful tiles or drapes. You can achieve almost any type of appearance using these different techniques, giving your ceiling -- as well as the entire room -- a whole new look. Although ceilings are often left neglected, they can have a huge impact on the way the room looks and feels.
  
  

Paint the Ceiling

• Pick a bright, soft color you like. Use a paint sprayer and paint your dropped ceiling in light coats. Don't forget to protect your furniture and floors before you start. You can prevent paint getting on them by simply covering everything with old newspapers.
  
  

New Tiles

• There is an abundance of differently styled and colored tiles you can choose from, so you don't need to stick to those old ones you have on your ceiling now. Try fake tin and fake copper tiles as they are often pressed into different shapes and designs so they will give your ceiling a whole different look.
  
  

Create a Canopy

• Run the fabric above the bars of the dropped ceiling to create a canopy. This will not change the lines of the room and as the ceiling itself will hold the fabric up, there is no need for additional tools.
