How to Spline a Screen

10
    • 1). Remove the window screen from the window frame and lay it on a flat, solid surface.

    • 2). Find the end of the spline in the groove around the window frame, pull the spline end up with the screwdriver, grab it with your fingers and peel the spline completely out of the groove. Dispose of the old spline and screen material.

    • 3). Unroll the fiberglass screen material over the frame from left to right, leaving 1 inch of screen past the left edge of the frame and 1 inch past the top of the frame. Keep the mesh even and square to the frame. Don't cut the material off the roll.

    • 4). Poke the end of the spline into the upper left corner of the groove, over the screen material, push it half way down into the frame groove, and run the spline all the way down the left side groove of the frame.

    • 5). Pull the roll, which is still attached to the screen material over the frame, to the right to remove the wrinkles.

    • 6). Bring the spline around the bottom left corner and continue pushing the spline halfway down into the groove, over the screen material, all the way around the frame until you are back to the upper left corner.

    • 7). Start at the upper left corner with the splice roller, using the grooved wheel, and roll it over the spline, seating it completely to the bottom of the groove. Push the spline down to the bottom of the groove around the entire frame.

    • 8). Cut the spline off the roll where the two ends meet in the upper left corner. Push the end of the spline down into the groove with the tip of the screwdriver.

    • 9). Lay the blade of the utility knife flat against the frame and cut the screen material free from the roll by sliding the blade flat along the frame. Continue cutting the excess screen material off by sliding the blade completely around the frame, cutting the screen material flush with the frame.
