Orlando Trip Tips

4

    Stay

    • Lake Buena Vista, home of Mickey himself, (technically, Disney World is NOT located in Orlando!) has a wide array of lodging options to choose from. Looking for a little luxury? The Ritz-Carlton Orlando is located ten miles from both the airport and Disney. Staying downtown in Orlando is highly recommended. There is a great nightlife scene including delicious restaurants and some of the hottest nightclubs Central Florida has to offer. Looking to see a different side of the city? Stay near Winter Park, where Rollins College is located. There are some inexpensive chain hotels around this area that allow visitors to save money and see the town that has been dubbed the "Beverly Hills of the East Coast." For more hotel information, visit the Orlando Travel & Visitors Bureau.

    Eat

    • Aside from Mickey Mouse waffles, Orlando has some fabulous food. Manuel's on the 28th restaurant is situated on - you guessed it - the 28th floor of the NationsBank building in downtown Orlando. If you're looking for the ultimate dining experience - look no further. The food continues to get outstanding reviews and the views of the city are unparalleled. Take a stroll around Lake Eola after dinner for a romantic touch. On the prowl for something a little more conventional and a bit less expensive? Urban Flats serves up great, affordable dishes and has several locations throughout the city. Stop by the Power House Cafe in Winter Park for the locally famous Power House Fuel sandwich: peanut butter, honey, granola, bananas, and strawberries on pita bread. The Orlando Travel & Visitors Bureau has more information.

    • Check out Mouse Savers for great Disney deals, including free information on discounts for tickets, merchandise, and transportation. Don't forget about other attractions such as Wet 'n Wild, the Orlando Museum of Art (great seasonal exhibits!), and WonderWorks. Orlando is also home to some great shopping including the elegant Mall at Millenia which is anchored by department stores Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales. Don't miss the Prime Outlets, which is home to 175 brand-name discount shops and located only moments away from the amusement parks for those who'd rather shop the shops than ride the rides.
