How to Reface Cupboards

14
    • 1). Remove the doors, drawers and any removal hardware from the main body of the cupboards, using your screwdriver.

    • 2). Buff down the whole surface of the cupboards with your vibrating sander, taking off the shine and any grime or surface impurities. Wipe off the dust.

    • 3). Measure each section of the cupboards that will be refaced. Adjust each set of measurements to be 1 inch larger all around than the actual section.

    • 4). Lay your laminate face-down on a smooth surface. Mark the adjusted dimensions on the back of the pieces with your level and pencil, right on the wax paper. Use your razor knife to score and snap each section, cutting through the wax paper and keeping it on the back of the pieces.

    • 5). Working from the sections farthest back from the front, position the laminate against the cupboard, with the overhang evenly spaced all around. Peel back the wax paper from the top, press the top part of the laminate to the surface, then peel the rest of the wax paper off.

    • 6). Press and slide your wood block across the laminate, getting it stuck as tight as possible to the surface.

    • 7). Run your razor along the laminate where it overlaps the edge to cut off the overhanging part and trim it straight along the cupboard.

    • 8). Repeat the process for each of the other sections. Reinstall the doors and draw-fronts, putting in new handles and knobs.
