How to Finish Walls With Pine Boards
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Locate and mark all the studs in each wall you want to cover with pine, using an electronic stud finder. Mark out the studs with a pencil and level, with vertical lines up the walls.
2
Mark a horizontal line over the base of the wall, up from the floor by the width of a pine board plus ½ inch. For example, if the pine boards are 8 inches wide, the horizontal line should be 8-1/2 inches up from the floor.
3
Measure the line you just marked, from end to end. Cut a piece of pine board at that length, minus ½ inch.
4
Set the board against the wall, with the tongue edge facing up, right under the horizontal line. There will be a ½ inch space below the board, and a ¼ inch space in the corners at either end.
5
Nail the board in place with your trim nailer, shooting the nails in along the top and bottom at each place where the board crosses a stud.
6
Cut the next board to the width of the wall, minus ½ inch. Set it on top of the first board, connecting them via their tongue-and-groove fittings. Secure the board by shooting nails at a downward angle through the upper edge at each place it crosses a stud.
7
Repeat the process for each plank, building up the wall. Cut the final piece (at the top) along its length with a table saw, so it fits next to the ceiling with a ½ inch space. Repeat for each wall.
8
Install trim along the floor, ceiling and in the vertical corners to cover the extra spaces you left there.
