The Bottom Line

My companion and I found ourselves at Tanzy at lunchtime on a lovely spring day. We shared one appetizer, each had an entree, and shared one dessert. Excluding beverages tax and tip the total came to about $18 per person.

Guide Review - Tanzy

Tanzy opened in early 2011 at Scottsdale Quarter, adjacent to the iPic Movie Theaters.

It wasn't especially busy for weekday lunch, and we were seated at a table near the large, open panels letting the light breezes into the dining room. Nearby people were seated at spacious booths -- too spacious it seemed. They all looked uncomfortable sitting far from the table and hunched over their food. Larger-sized people would probably appreciate the extra space, though.

Our table seating was very comfortable.

Tasty focaccia and olive tapenade are presented to each table. The menus at Tanzy aren't extensive. Notwithstanding the definition of the cuisine as a "new age approach to Mediterranean cuisine" there was little here I would define as Mediterranean. At lunch we were offered a choice of three appetizers, six salads, five sandwiches, eight entrees (four of which are seafood) and three desserts. At our server's suggestion we tried the Crispy Brussel Sprouts ($7) for our first course. Definitely large enough to share, these brussel sprouts were lightly battered and delicious, without that aroma that accompanies cooking them at home! Nothing really jumped out at us from the main part of the menu, so, our server suggested the Summer Halibut ($15). It was light and flavorful with Lemon Buerre Blanc and served over squash. Although it was indicated in the menu, I didn't notice any Roasted Tomatoes. My companion was happy with his Portobello, Roasted Red Pepper and Goat Cheese Panini ($9). The fries were excellent. Not being a Tiramisu lover (most recommended at seemingly hundreds of restaurants around town) our server recommended the Sorbet Trio ($6) for dessert. It was not especially exciting, but cool and refreshing with three scoops of fruit flavored sorbet, suitable for sharing.

The majority of the patrons on the day I visited were having casual business lunch meetings. I noticed that most people seemed to ordering one of the salads, several of which offer an option to add chicken or salmon. Next time I'll give one of those a try.

The dinner menu includes more appetizers, some pasta dishes ($17 to $24) and nine entree selections, four of which are seafood. Dinner entrees range in price from $19 to $34.
I probably wouldn't travel a long distance to dine at Tanzy, but I certainly would consider it for happy hour or a light meal before or after a show at the iPic Theater.
Tanzy is located on the second level of Scottsdale Quarter, on the northeast side of the complex. Parking in the North Parking lot is closest. Follow directions to iPic Theaters, and take the elevator or escalator to the second level. The restaurant can be accessed from inside the movie theater lobby, or through the fantastic main entry door at the top of the escalator.
