Media Center 2005 System Requirements
- Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) 2005 combined the features of standard Windows XP with an entertainment center. In addition to playing games and working, you can also enjoy enhanced entertainment options using just your computer. All of your picture, video and audio files can be combined in one library. You can play your favorite movie on a desktop or on a laptop using a remote control. However, check the system requirements for this Windows XP edition before installing it.
- The Central Processing Unit, or just CPU, is the heart of your computer and its speed determines how fast it can handle data. CPU speed is measured in GHz (gigahertz). Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 requires a 1.6 GHz or faster processor.
- RAM, or Random Access Memory, is the primary memory device on your computer. Size of RAM determines how many programs a PC can handle at the same time and is measured in MB (megabytes) or GB (gigabytes). Windows XP MCE requires 256 MB of RAM.
- Your hard drive contains all of your computer's files and determines the final capacity of your PC. Its size is also measured in either MB (megabytes) or GB (gigabytes). Windows XP MCE requires 60 GB of available hard space on static systems and 30 GB on mobile systems.
- Windows XP Media Center Edition also requires a 64 MB DDR 4x AGP DirectX 9 graphics card along with a 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 720 resolution monitor. Both hardware pieces are necessary for the operating system to display graphics and video.
In addition, you need a DVD drive (4x DVD and 16x CD reading speeds), a mouse, a keyboard and Internet connection. As an option you would also need an MCE remote control and a TV tuner adapter.
