Where are Century Theatres in Denver?
Century Theatres, a division of Cinemark Theaters, operates two movie theaters in the Denver metro area. Century offers showtimes at 32 screens total. Both theaters offer stadium seating and XD (Extreme Digital Cinema,) as well as student and senior discounts. In 2014, Cinemark celebrated its 30th anniversary as a company. Lee Roy Mitchell founded Cinemark in 1984 in Plano, Texas. By 2014, the movie theater chain had 486 theaters across the U.S.
"Cinemark's achievement over the past 30 years is a testament to Lee Roy's vision and an amazing group of people who executed the vision and built an incredible company," said Tim Warner, Cinemark CEO, in a statement. "From our theatre ushers, concessionaires and managers, to the corporate office staff and management team, Team Cinemark is comprised of extremely talented people who work hard every day to earn our customer's business and make Cinemark a success."
The Century Aurora was also the site of the gruesome massacre in July 2012 of moviegoers attending a midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises." Twelve moviegoers lost their lives and 58 were wounded in the shooting spree by James Holmes, who pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The mass shooting was the deadliest in Colorado since 1999 when the shooting at Columbine High School occurred.
Cinemark closed the Century Aurora movie theater following the tragedy before reopening it on January 17, 2013. However, some victims' families said the movie chain showed insensitivity by reopening the theater instead of building a memorial to the victims.
