Eastern Oregon has a dryer climate than the coastal area and a significant amount of mining and pioneer history. Interstate 84 follows part of the Old Oregon Trail as it makes its way to the Columbia River. RV parks abound throughout Eastern Oregon, many with nearby historic parks, mining towns and monuments. - Located in Northeast Oregon's Peace Valley, this RV park is 10 miles south of La Grande off Highway 203 on a route that is part of the Old Oregon Trail and adjacent to Hot Lake, a natural hot springs, which has been a popular camping place since pioneer days. Eagles Hot Lake RV Park offers 100 spaces, all graveled and all pull-throughs. Spaces are all 90 feet long and wide enough for slide-outs and large enough for Class A rigs with their towed vehicles attached. All campsites feature full hook-ups, offering both 30- and 50-amp electrical, picnic tables and Wi-Fi. Enjoy park amenities that include a fishing pond, heated pool, hot tub, children's playground, horseshoe pits and a recreation room. Utilize on-site laundry facilities, showers and restrooms and a grocery store that sells firewood and RV supplies. The park also has an exchange library and a self-serve RV wash. eagleshotlakerv.com - Sumpter is an old mining town named by Southern miners that discovered gold in the area. In 1862 they built a log cabin and called it Fort Sumter, dedicating it to the shelling of the fort in Charleston, South Carolina. The postal service took offense, dropped the "fort" and added a "p" to change the name to Sumpter. The town is 20 miles west of Interstate 84 off Highway 7. Pines RV Park offers 18 camp spaces, all graveled with full hook-ups and 30- and 50-amp electrical. Ten of the sites are pull-throughs; all are 60-feet long and wide enough for slide-outs. Most sites are shaded. Campground amenities include picnic tablesWi-Fi, cable TV, a dump station, laundry room, restrooms, showers, library, self-serve RV wash and a general store. Pets are welcome at this park, but there are breed restrictions.
