How to Install Loose Insulation
- 1). Locate each stud in the wall with your electronic stud finder. Put a pencil mark at the halfway point between each pair of studs, positioning the marks 6 or 8 inches below the ceiling.
- 2). Hold the end of your blower hose against the wall over the first pencil mark. Trace around the hose with a pencil. Repeat for each mark. Cut out the traced circles with your jigsaw, making the cutouts about ¼ inch bigger than the hose diameter.
- 3). Load the insulation blower with loose insulation. Push the hose into one hole, all the way to the bottom of the space inside.
- 4). Start your blower. Let it fill the wall cavity with loose insulation as you slowly withdraw the hose. Continue until the hose is back out and the space inside the wall, between the two studs, is filled. (Note: You will be able to see loose insulation inside the wall through the hole near the ceiling.)
- 5). Repeat for each hole, filling each space between each pair of studs.
- 6). Spray foam insulation into each hole so it fills the opening and expands to seal it. Use a drywall knife to smooth the foam insulation over the hole, getting it completely flat with the wall. Let it set for an hour.
- 7). Hang your wallpaper border along the top of the wall, covering all the patched holes.
