How to Use Batt Insulation in an Unvented Attic
- 1). Take a measurement fro the top of the attic wall (the peak) down to the floor.
- 2). Pull out a length of insulation from the roll, pulling out more than the height of the wall that you measured. Position it on the floor with the brown paper-covered side facing up at you and the bare insulation side facing down.
- 3). Transfer the measurement you took from the wall to the paper on the insulation, measuring from the end back along the strip. Set your T-square across the width of the insulation at the measurement, and cut alongside it with your razor knife to separate the piece.
- 4). Hold the top of the piece of insulation to the top of the wall, at the peak, between two of the wall studs, with the bare insulation facing the wall and the paper side facing you. Hold the paper tabs at the edges of the insulation to the sides of the studs on either side, and staple them there.
- 5). Move down the length of the insulation with your stapler, shooting staples through the paper tabs and into the studs at every 12 to 18 inches, securing the insulation to the wall and filling the space between the studs entirely.
- 6). Repeat between every pair of studs on the attic wall.
