Retrieving Problems With My Streaming Netflix

11

    Network Connection

    • Netflix streaming automatically chooses the quality for your streaming video based on the detected network speed. Very slow network connections may result in problems with retrival and playback. If you are watching Netflix via a computer or Netflix-enabled device like a Roku or game console via a wireless network connection, try switching to a wired network connection if possible. Interference or other factors may result in slow transfer speeds and problems with playback. If you are using a shared network connection such as a home network that is concurrently being used for bandwidth-heavy applications, including online gaming or a large download, try watching when network traffic is low. If you have ruled out either a poor wireless connection or heavy network usage, try restarting your broadband connection. The most common method to do this is by power cycling your broadband router, however this can vary between providers so consult your Internet Service Provider for more information if you are not sure. After your broadband connection has been reset, attempt to access Netflix again.

    Software Issues

    • Software issues, including outdated browsers or Silverlight plugins, may cause problems when trying to stream videos from Netflix. If you suspect a problem with your browser, update your browser to ensure that you are using the latest version. Consult your browser's documentation for more information. Information on updating Microsoft Silverlight can be found in the "Resources" section of this article.

    Device Issues

    • Netflix-ready devices such as Roku, Internet-ready HDTVs and mobile devices each have their own special Netflix application installed. An out of date Netflix client may cause issues when attempting to stream content from the Netflix site. If you suspect that your Netflix client is out of date, consult your device's documentation on how to update the individual Netflix client. Out of date firmware on the device itself may also cause problems with the Netflix client so it is a good idea to perform any system updates for your device at this time as well.

    Account Issues

    • If your Netflix device reports that it is unable to connect to Netflix due to an account issue, check your Netflix account to ensure that it is current. A lapse in payment due to an expired credit card or other financial issue may have led to a temporary disconnection in service. Login to your Netflix account by logging in to the main Netflix Web page and then the clicking "Your Account & Help" link at the top right-hand side of the page. Your account information as well as any billing issues will be available at silverlight.net/archives/videos/updating-silverlight.

    Contact Netflix

    • If the previous troubleshooting methods do not solve your issue, contact Netflix customer support by calling 866-716-0414 or by logging in to the Netflix website from your computer's web browser and clicking the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.
